Maternity nurse or doula
Kensington Midwives have recently offered a new service, Maternity Doula. Suzanne will come and stay overnight, or for a week or two following your return home with your new baby. Here is a lovely recommendation from a happy client.
“Suzanne Smythe is warm, nurturing, calm and knowledgeable – exactly the kind of person you can trust with your precious newborn. She assisted my husband and myself with our baby Hugo as a night nurse for our very first few nights home from the hospital. She helped my husband and myself get some much needed extra sleep by soothing Hugo in between feedings and she really helped me gain confidence in my breastfeeding abilities by coaching me on proper latching technique and different positions. I wholeheartedly recommend Suzanne to any new parents looking for support with their newborns.”
The first weeks at home can be very exhausting and we have found that a small amount of extra help can make an enormous difference to postnatal recovery, both physically and psychologically. We at Kensington Midwives always encourage grandparents to come and help, food to be prepared and frozen in advance and husbands to take as much time off as possible. Recently maternity nannies have become even more popular, starting from the first night home or when Dad goes back to work. This is an excellent plan as broken nights are very difficult for all new mums.
