Newborn photography

4th Oct 2017

Recently Kensington Midwives and Doulas met newborn photographer Diana Pavlova, a newborn, baby and family photographer based in Chelsea, London. We loved her photographs and we are happy to recommend her to our clients.

We invited her to contribute to our blog and to write about herself, her photographs and why families may like to invite a professional photographer into their home during the early weeks of their new baby’s life.

Having your sweet newborn’s photograph taken by a professional photographer has become incredibly popular, but why hire a professional photographer and not just use a friend who has a good camera , or simply buy your own camera?

Diana loves bringing out the sweetest smiles in little people and creating wonderful portraits that her clients and their loved ones will treasure for years to come. She was raised thousands of kilometres away from her grandparents (in Tokyo and Beijing) and grew up admiring the power of a photograph to build strong bonds regardless of the distance. The pictures that her Dad took of her and her younger sister with his Nikon were some of her grandparents’ most prized possessions, which they proudly displayed.

Even today, as an expat in London with friendships across five continents, photographs remain one of the best way for Diana to keep her friends and loved ones involved in her life. “Yes, we all have Instagram and Snapchat, but how many of these images do we really come back to and admire?”, Diana explains.

“Beautiful photographs hold a key to some of our most precious memories, and can transport us back to a place, a person, a feeling. There is nothing more that I enjoy, than photographing families and giving them beautiful moments in time with their little darlings.”

So here are Diana’s five reasons why it is worth investing in a professional newborn photographer:

  1. Your baby is only this little once

Welcoming a newborn into your life is one of the greatest gifts in life! Yet the first few weeks are often overwhelming and can pass by at a blink of an eye. By hiring a professional photographer, you are committing to taking some time to celebrate your precious little angel by capturing its tiny features. Just imagine the joy of coming back to the beautiful images each year, as your little one grows and thrives.

  1. You can relax whilst the magic happens

Delivering a baby into this world is one of the most challenging things in the world. The first few weeks are physically and emotionally challenging for all new mums. Inbetween sleepless nights, adjusting to a new baby and recovering from the delivery, taking the time to make beautiful pictures of your angel can be difficult.

  1. Your baby will be protected throughout

Posing a newborn baby is a great responsibility. Professional photographers know this, which is why we invest numerous hours in training and are able to best handle your sweet little baby. Please do not attempt to recreate composite poses yourself. Newborn photography is definitely not something you can do yourself after simply watching a few ‘how to’ videos on YouTube.

  1. You will be in the photos too

How often do you or your friends Instagram images of your little baby on its own? Or best case scenario, an image of yourself cosying up to your sweet baby as a mirror selfie? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you had a professional advise you how to pose, bringing out your best features as you cuddle your little one? Yes, yes, it would, which is exactly why you would turn to us, the professional photographer.

  1. It is not just the camera

Technology has never been more accessible than it is today. Anyone can purchase the equipment professional photographers work with. But you rarely hire a photographer for their gear. You turn to professionals for their ability to create magic by capturing the essence of your newly found family; their ability to reveal the strong bond that exists between you and your little one since the day they came into your life.
