The Bump Class, Antenatal Classes in Central London

7th Sep 2013

An excellent antenatal class opened in 2013 in South Kensington. It is a mothers only group, which meets every week, for 8 weeks. We very much enjoyed meeting Dr Chiara Hunt and Marina Fogel, sisters who set up the Bump Class, and we feel they will prepare mothers very well for the experience of childbirth, looking after a new baby and parenting.

The Bump Class is joined by other specialists who are invited to take some of the classes, Liz Noonan a midwife, Geraldine Miskin a private breastfeeding specialist and Camilla Bouverie a women’s health physiotherapist. All are experts in their fields and carefully chosen for their supportive and unbiased views.

Chiara and Marina stress that the classes are informative, impartial and above all great fun. They offer an opportunity to learn but also to get excited about the arrival of your new baby. They also believe that the lead up to childbirth should be an opportunity to meet new people and share experiences. This social side of the class has an enormous value to new mothers, who will make new friends for company and support during the coming months and perhaps even for life. A new friend is priceless, and the opportunity to meet is provided excellently in a friendly and caring environment. The friendships built within the group are one of the most important aspects of the course. Friends will form a large part of a new mother’s support network, and having a group of friends whose babies are the same age cannot be underestimated.

Kensington Midwives highly recommend all new mothers in the area to join The Bump Class. The classes will not only prepare you for the birth of your baby, but they also spend time on focusing on life once your baby has arrived.

The Course is for women only as some topics are more easily discussed in an all female environment and it also gives the group the opportunity to bond in a very unique way.  A fathers evening is an optional extra. They also offer a paediatric first aid course and an early pregnancy class.

The Antenatal Course consists of weekly sessions of 1 ½ hours over eight weeks. Groups are small, not exceeding 12 girls, all of whom are due within a month of each other. An 8 week course costs £450. These are run during the day, but they also have some condensed evening courses for those who cannot take time off work.

Book early as they are very popular and extremely good.
